JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2023 30 HOURS MEDIATION TRAINING:

Essential Skills for Collaborative Neutrals

(30 hour mediation training with Jacinta Gallant)

Essential Skills For Collaborative Professionals

In Collaborative Practice, we have to manage the legal, financial, practical and deeply emotional aspects of separation in order to help our clients reach workable and meaningful agreement. Our clients are often strongly defensive and feel challenged in ways that threaten their very identities. The CP Professional Team can be challenged by behaviors that seem demanding, conflictual and “unreasonable”. In order to do this work well, we need to be conflict managers as well as problem-solvers.

This 30-hour training, hosted by the Utah Association of Collaborative Professionals, is open to new and experienced professionals from all regions who want to learn deeper skills in conflict management, communication, and teamwork – so that we can more effectively facilitate dialogue, not debate. We will also spend time understanding our own selves and how to be more natural and responsive (rather than reactive) in conflict moments. These essential skills will help us work better together – with our clients and our professional teams.

With a mix of presentation, small group discussion, role play practice and independent reading, this training covers all the topics recommended in the IACP Minimum Standards for 30 hours of training in “client-centered, facilitative conflict resolution”. For those who have already met this 30-hour training requirement, this Training will advance your skills as you apply what you “already know” to some new and insightful approaches to conflict and communication.
